The Hands-on Relay School provides short course continuing education to train protective relay technicians, electrical/power plant technicians and protective relay test specialists. The school offers seven hands-on track including: basic, distribution-microprocessor, generation, transmission, automated relay testing, electro-mechanical, and theory. The Relay School is designed to help students become familiar with multiple test methods for a variety of protective relays and test equipment and learn correct preventative maintenance methods. The course of instruction emphasizes the exchange ideas and resolution of problems in an open forum.
Objectives of the Hands-On Relay School:
- Become familiar with manual or automated test methods for a variety of protective relays and test equipment
- Gain valuable knowledge relating to relay application and operating characteristics
- Exchange ideas and resolve problems in an open forum
- Learn preventative and corrective maintenance methods
School Structure
The Hands-On Relay school is comprised of seven hands-on tracks, as well as a lecture series for beginning relay technicians or other newcomers, overview lectures for each track, numerous open concurrent lectures throughout the week and a lecture on Friday morning to conclude the school.
